The third painting party proceeded at Patti’s. There’s a little trim painting left in case there are any more volunteers. It’s almost party worthy!

Fall Festivities

This is NOT the season to sit back and relax. The air is crisp, the sun still high and the leaves are beckoning an audience. If there’s anything that you missed on your summer ‘to do’ list, please add it to your autumn agenda. In case you did complete your summer list, here are some suggestions for your fall festivities.

Enjoy the season!

Soft Shadows

Autumn glows
Through the branches
It defines the shadows
Through the shadows
It defines itself
Symbiosis
Oneness
Diffused light
Beginning and ending
A particle apart
Likeness through lightness

Change of Seasons

As seasons change, we must adapt. From the heat of the summer to the colorful cools of autumn we adjust. From the bright hues to the cold neutrals of winter, we hunker down to brave the winds and snow. As the icy blues melt, we await the greens and warmth of spring. Those that go with the flow survive the changes. Those that embrace the changes create newness unseen the year before.

September 21st

"September"

Do you remember the
21st night of September?
Love was changing the minds of pretenders
While chasing the clouds away

Our hearts were ringing
In the key that our souls were singing.
As we danced in the night,
Remember how the stars stole the night away

Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day

My thoughts are with you
Holding hands with your heart to see you
Only blue talk and love,
Remember how we knew love was here to stay

Now December found the love that we shared in September.
Only blue talk and love,
Remember the true love we share today

Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day

Ba de ya - say do you remember
Ba de ya - dancing in September
Ba de ya - golden dreams were shiny days

Turn up the volume!

If you are one of the majority who text daily, then you may find texting guides helpful. Below are excerpts from senior texting guides going through the emails and on the Internet. Painting Again!

As the weekend continued and the saga of the summer paint project at Patti’s carried on…we did get in another day of painting. The furniture looks great! There’s always more to do, but the yard is looking good!

SMS Class of 1932

This photo is courtesy of Patti. Her mom, Mary, and Michele’s mom, Anna, were both graduates of St. Mary School, class of 1932. This is a photo of the 8th grade graduating class.

Thanks Patti.

National Women’s Friendship Day

The third Sunday of September is National Women’s Friendship Day.  It seems we are already celebrating this day every day.  May this love among old friends continue.

Painting The Town Red

Today started wonderfully with a rendezvous at Patti’s with Karyn, Mike, Cathy, Sue and of course Patti. By-the-way, Karyn & Mike are looking and doing great! It was a super visit.

The continuing saga of GIRLS WITH TOOLS forged ahead today with painting at Patti’s. ‘Project of the day’ was painting the bulkhead and the picnic table. The celebrity of the day (second only to Karyn & Mike) was the new Wagner power sprayer! As the masterminds gathered their talents to find the perfect recipe (paint and thinner) for the correct viscosity for the sprayer, in the hand-selected color of “Liberty Red”, the afternoon proved to be on a perfect path for success. Grab the plastic and tape for masking, assemble the sprayer, stir paint and voila…an afternoon of great achievement. The proof is in the photos.

And a good time was had by all!

About Town And Us

Last night the town of Stoughton honored 9/11 with a tribute in the center of town. The police and fire departments were represented with the flag majestically raised.

The new grotto at Immaculate Conception Church is complete honoring Mary. Mary is featured in a gentle waterfall surrounded by flowers with ambient lighting at night.

Michele has submitted a photo of the “Greene Girls of Summer”. Taken in Hull, ladies present are Barbara, Michele, Marybeth and Anna in center. All ladies are SMFairies!

Patty has sent a photo of her daughter’s wedding. Congratulations to both Patty and daughter Katie.

Tropical Dreams

I’m not quite there yet…giving up summer that is. With the evening temps dropping below sixty, we are facing the inevitability of autumn. Cooler breezes have made their appearance…good for sleeping, but with a slow start to warmth during the day. As I promised myself in mid-winter, I would not complain about the summer’s heat. I did not. I made the heat and humidity good friends of my day. They made me move a bit slower but with the appreciation of the world around me…the flowers, grass, trees, shrubs, blue skies, puffy clouds, balmy breezes and the waters that surround me.

The ease of summer and the comfort of casual clothing with flip-flops keep calling my name. Turtle-neck sweaters are not on my agenda just yet. I’m even fighting the urge to get out my “Cape Cod” sweatshirt. It is set aside…just in case…the temps do drop a bit more this week as September progresses. The marigolds are still in their glory and mums are everywhere heralding the oncoming equinox. The change of season is inevitable, but I’m holding on to the treasures of summer just a bit longer.

Enjoy each day!

September’s Snowflake

September’s Snowflake

As flowers fade
In preparation for the turning of the leaves
September’s snowflake
Shows off its frosty mane
As it shines from the deepest of shadows
While the sun bows out from center stage
Glowing as a full moon
Both day and night
‘Dusty Miller’
Is a show-stopper!

On a balmy September day
Impending friends meet
And celebrate
Their new found friendship
In a most splendid way…

God's Garden

God's Garden
God made a beauteous garden
With lovely flowers strewn,
But one straight, narrow pathway
That was not overgrown.
And to this beauteous garden
He brought mankind to live,
And said: 'To you, my children,
These lovely flowers I give.
Prune ye my vines and fig trees,
With care my flowerets tend,
But keep the pathway open
Your home is at the end.'

Then came another master,
Who did not love mankind,
And planted on the pathway
Gold flowers for them to find.
And mankind saw the bright flowers,
That, glitt'ring in the sun,
Quite hid the thorns of av'rice
That poison blood and bone;
And far off many wandered,
And when life's night came on,
They still were seeking gold flowers,
Lost, helpless and alone.

O, cease to heed the glamour
That blinds your foolish eyes,
Look upward to the glitter
Of stars in God's clear skies.
Their ways are pure and harmless
And will not lead astray,
Bid aid your erring footsteps
To keep the narrow way.
And when the sun shines brightly
Tend flowers that God has given
And keep the pathway open
That leads you on to heaven.

1966

Let’s reminisce a bit. Picture it…1966… we are returning to school in the year of the mini-skirt, hoping that the nuns don’t notice that our pleated skirts are rolled above the knee. The boy’s clip-on ties are in place but the first button is unbuttoned. The hills are alive with the “Sound of Music” on the big screen. On the small screen, the first episode of “The Monkees” entertained us while “Star Trek” also made its debut. Color TVs look like they are ‘catching on’ while black & white TVs become portable! It’s the year of “Good Vibrations” from the Beach Boys and “Sounds of Silence” from Simon and Garfunkel. Our Christmas lists included Barbie dolls and Rock-em, Sock-em Robots.

I’m not sure if it’s the year I got my first pogo stick….still the rage in the 60’s. I do know it was not my last!

Enjoy your trip down memory lane!

Back To School

For some of the towns, school has already begun. If not, it’s right around the corner for the rest. I’ve selected some prints by our very own Norman Rockwell to reminisce the ‘return to school’.

Enjoy.

Shades of Summer

Here are a few pics of flowers still in bloom. As the day’s light fades, there are still plenty of flowers to enjoy before the leaves change color.

Have a colorful day.
