As The Fairies Come Out To Play

When the moon is high
And the night air still
As the stars twinkle
Like your true love’s eyes
And dew drops awaken
To the night’s cool skies
And you give pause to the cause
Of looking outside
With your heart
You can hear a fairy sigh
Out of the corner of your eye
You will spy
A flash of light in the night’s new sky
And a giggle with the sigh
Only to hear the delight
Of flight in the night
As the fairies go flying by
Riding a leaf
Wearing a blossom
Tiptoes on toadstools
And a song in the air
Your heart is elevated
For the joy of the sight
As the fairies come out to play
These kindred spirits
As children of the Earth
Do celebrate the pleasures
Of innocence
A laugh or story
Of life’s own glory
On this thy hallowed eve

Sandy

As the rain subsides and the skies grow brighter, hoping all of you are well during this storm. With the colors of fall passing in the winds and rain, with the leaves puddling in the corners of the road, I hope you are safe and dry in the comfort of your homes. I personally have fared better than many without loss of power.

Take care,
Cathy

To Weather The Weather

Oh, to weather the weather
Whether or not
You follow the weather
The weather will follow you
Drips and drops from Doppler reports
Depends on whether or not
You report the drops
Until the drizzle fizzles
Do we dare to sally forth
For what it’s worth
To brave the elements harsh
Through wind and rain
And hurricane
And Sandy’s day so farce
Prepare we must
For hair that’s fussed
And routines extraordinary
To brave each wave
That waves our way
With each and every drop

May Hurricane Sandy be kind to us…
But our Yankee spirit will endure this, like all that’s come before.

To Catch A Cloud

If you could catch a cloud
What do you think
It would it be made of
The mist of morning dew
A million nanoflies
Lost dandelion fluff
The passing thought of an unmet friend
The down of a bird of paradise
A memory
A tear dissolved
A prayer answered
Smiles
Hope
The makings of a new day
Possibilities galore

Trash Cancer

I did see Fran Drescher on TV today. She’s a cancer survivor and an advocate for fighting cancer starting with your home and lifestyle. She encourages self-empowerment as a means to fight this disease. Her website has advice for ridding your home of toxic chemicals and detoxing your body with healthy foods. Good council for all.

She invites you to “trash cancer” with her!

Here’s an excellent book for detoxing your body and lifestyle; my personal favorite.

Think Pink Month Continues

There is still a week left to October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A simple way to contribute is through this website:

Collect ‘pink lids’ from participating food manufacturers and redeem via mail or online. Money will go to the ‘Susan G. Komen For The Cure’ and the lids are redeemable till June 2013.

How easy is that?!

Pumpkin Fun

I found this picture on the internet. Some things are so cute they must be shared. There’s nothing like a teddy bear to warm your hearts in the frosty season to come. This one warms us just in time for Halloween.

A Lesson In Grace

This article is so perfect in content, it can’t be improved upon…
UNLESS…you do take it to heart and put it into practice.

Cosmos

The blue of the sky

A Timid Leaf

The timid leaf
Ahead of the rest

Of The Like

Leaves dance on the water
As they reflect the sky
In the eye
As the blue hue
Compliments the opposite
The orange enhances
The new hue
Of the change in
The mind’s eye
While noting that
Opposites do attract
The dance of colors
Comes from those
Of the like

Open House

Saturday’s ‘Open House’ in honor of ‘Fire Prevention Week’ was very successful from the looks on the children’s faces. Pizza, candy, treats and hats were the order of the day. The new ladder truck was on display and the kids took full advantage of seeing it first-hand.

Thank you, Stoughton Fire Dept.

Tuscan Luncheon

Yesterday fared well for a Tuscan luncheon at Sue’s.

While I was helping Patti with painting a week or so ago, Sue was finishing her Tuscan inspired kitchen. A backsplash of glass and stone tiles is a beautiful finish to the new flooring and countertops. Summer projects are 99% complete for “Girls With Tools”!

As usual, her talents in the kitchen are not limited to tiling and grout! A Tuscan lunch was also served to break in the new kitchen. It was a perfect celebration for a summer’s end to honor the skills of the artisans.

Here are a few pics from yesterday.

Thanks Sue,

Vegan Awareness

I know, I know, you've been waiting for me to mention that October is Vegetarian Month and that November is Vegan Month. Neither is an oversight on my part! (Wink! ;-))

Just a gentle reminder that veggies are good for you.  Lots and lots of veggies could lead you to a new vegan lifestyle. The possibilities are endless!

Try a meatless meal today!

World Smile Day

What can make a cloudy sky bright?
What can make a gloomy heart gladden?
What can make sad eyes sparkle?
What can lift your spirits quickly?
A smile.

Harvey Ball, a Massachusetts native and creator of the classically known yellow smiley face, celebrates Smile Day that we may all enjoy each other’s smile.

Today is World Smile day.
Pass along a smile to someone today.

Rainy Days

These few days of dismal drizzle and a pall of grey overhead make me look to the past. During our SMF days, when inside school on a rainy day, we had a mid-day exercise immediately following lunch. A little bit of cardiovascular care, long before we had that term, came in the form of marching about the room to music.

Rain trickled down the windows’ exterior while we looked outside with the realization that there would be no hopscotching and ball playing in the school yard. ‘Grace’ was solemnly prayed and lunch was eaten. The folding of the placemats on our desk completed the venue. The record player was located in Mother Superior’s office. With a little squelch on the loud speakers, we prepared for the music to play. Up we went, standing at attention at the side of our desks. A classic song such as “Stars and Stripes Forever” blared into the classroom.

It didn’t seem to be much of an event…at first…but, within a minute we were singing, marching, swinging our arms, and smiling at kids that were just seated at the back of the room moments before. Shoulder passing shoulder as we whisked pass the blackboard brought smiles to our faces. Laughs and giggles ensued. Humor was heightened and our spirits prepared for the afternoon.

It was a good day, rain or shine.

Nature’s Playful Nature

Nature plays with us
We are given more choices
Than we know what to do with
Colors, textures, shapes and sizes
Tantalize the mind and boggle the senses
Life’s a banquet
Dive in and enjoy
Tis the season for change
