Tag, You’re It!

“Tag, you’re it!” was music to the ears in summer time. It represented the freedom of summer play with friends and family. ‘Love taps’ turned into a game. Gather those closest to you and decide which game to play…tag, hide-and-go-seek or statues. Whatever game was chosen, you had to tap the person on the shoulder to get to the next level. Sometimes you had to choose another to replace you as the tagger. (Pick me, pick me!) They were games of choice and affection…games of fun, camaraderie and laughter.

Love tap memories turned into the pages of time for our lives. These games were carried in our minds and hearts and could be played anywhere at any time…at home, the local playground, with neighbors, visiting with cousins, on vacation and with new-found friends for a day at the beach. They are also universal in nature. Children naturally go to another, recognizing someone their own age and reach out and give a tap. Anywhere you go children find a way to run, play and tag for fun.

The freedom of running and tagging someone should be considered as an adult. Let your inhibitions go, find a friend, new friend or old, and give a ‘love tap’. Tag, you’re it! Let’s play. If that’s not your best option, at least ‘tag’ them for a cup of coffee!

Tag, you’re it!
