Fifty-nine

We, the SMFs are celebrating our fifty-ninth year. The birthdays are flying by and the memories are continuing on their journey. Today I came across a book that I received nine years ago from Ellie (SMF!) as we celebrated our fiftieth birthday. I dust it off and open the inspirational pages honoring friendship. On each page there are a number of quotes from many sources, all wise and mostly funny. A smile is guaranteed from every page.

The book is a celebration of girlfriends. It contains so many aspects of fun in all facets of a girl’s life from young to oldish (!) that it’s a delight to read and reread. In planning for our SMF get-together that’s just around the corner, I thought I’d find a quick recipe, memorabilia or anecdote to add to the festivities. As I turned each beautifully illustrated page, I realized that so much of what was documented by this author of her life and friends paralleled much in the SMFs and our history of friendship. Kinship. The story of girlfriends is universal. We share so much in our lives and history. It’s nice to see it documented by this author, Susan Branch. It’s a delight to know we have the same common threads woven into our lives as other women…a tapestry of sisterhood.
